Becoming bored with my '65 Galaxie, ready to move on. Anyone want it??

Ready to move on to another automotive obsession; so I should sell this one:

'65 Galaxie 500 2 door hardtop, 352 4-BBL dual exhaust engine, green dot automatic, power steering, freezing c-c-cold...

Re: aftermarket power steering kits; '52-'56 cars

I recall my Mother saying she almost stopped driving entirely for the 4 years the family car was a '52 Ford. She always complained that it was SO hard to steer.

When Dad traded in the Ford on a...

This afternoon I will do some remedial fine tuning and finessing and doing some of the checks you guys have suggested.

Re: Timing chain "slop"?

Maybe it's NOT the timing chain?

What else would produce this condition??

Re: Timing chain "slop"?

Thanks for all you guy's opinions & advice!

As I have said before, this hesitation has been the same with 3 different, working fine on other cars, carburetors. At this point, I seriously doubt...

Re: Timing chain "slop"?

Step by step instructions for "Mr. Bad Wrench" (me) would be greatly appreciated.

After 3 different carbs, with the same results, I don't believe I have a carb problem.

Re: Timing chain "slop"?

It also does it when in neutral.

The distributor (and vacuum advance canister) are new, appear to be working properly.

This one has be puzzled!

Re: Timing chain "slop"?

The reason for this thread: My '65 352 has a hesitation just after leaving a stop.

If you stomp it hard it will lurch away from a stop sign/stop light and run fine. But a gentle, old lady...

OT: Anyone familiar with old Lincoln prices?

I'm looking at an '83 Lincoln Continental Mark 6 2 door, the "downsized" one after the large ones of the 1970's. Many car eXperts don't like this one, but I do!

A low option (for this kind of...

Re: Binding? Passenger Window Forearm Muscles.

This may not be your problem; but here goes:

Both front windows on my '65 Galaxie were difficult to wind up and down. (the back seat windows were ok.)

I slowly & carefully removed the interior...

Re: Timing chain "slop"?

mileage is 54K. Appears to indeed be 54, not 154, judging by the usual indications.

Anyone drive a '53 Ford with factory power steering?

How was the steering effort needed? On par with a modern car, finger light or hardly any assist/boost at all?

Was the gear ratio/lock to lock turns reduced with the factory power steering?

I do believe that your R12 freon information is inaccurate and incorrect.

Gotta replace the exhaust manifold gasket on my '65 Galaxie. Any tips/advice?

352 engine.

It makes a "popping" sound under acceleration, still quiet when cruising.

The local muffler shop verified that it is the driver's side exhaust manifold gasket leaking.

Any...

Re: "Fingerhut" seat covers

The only "wear spot" on the otherwise perfect interior on my low mileage '65 Galaxie has is on the edge of the driver's side/edge cloth & vinyl seat. Disappointing for less than 60K miles! But...

Re: "Fingerhut" seat covers

Yup! My Grandfather had their seat covers on every car he owned, also on the sun visors.

When he got ready to sell off/trade in his car, out came his sharpened pocket knife and off came the clear...

Re: What are you running for timing on your FE engines?

Both the owner's manual and the factory shop manual for my '65 Galaxie specify regular gasoline for the 352 engine. BUT even at the dog dead factory setting of 6 BTDC (much less where it is now!)...

What are you running for timing on your FE engines?

I tried adjusting my '65 Galaxie, FE 352 4-BBL engine at the factory spec of 6 degrees BTDC; but it doesn't run all that great. It feels slightly sluggish, bogs down/hesitates when leaving a stop...

Re: I am most impressed with the cooling system on my '65 Galaxie (pic below)

I've noticed this "cool running engine" tendency also.

In the short winter season we have here in New Orleans, this car NEVER got above the thermostat rating; often the 'stat would not need to...

Re: I am most impressed with the cooling system on my '65 Galaxie (pic below)

Yes indeed, the proper fan shroud makes a world of difference, esp when stuck in traffic. When I see air conditioned older cars missing the factory fan shroud or with a loosely spinning, worn out...

Thumbs up I am most impressed with the cooling system on my '65 Galaxie (pic below)

"Only" 88 degrees outside here in New Orleans, 65% humidity (Cool for this time of the year here!). This pic is after a 15 mile run, first 80% on Interstate 10, last 20% on 25 mph residential...

Re: A/C idler pulley availability?

No reply from the ebay seller.

I did receive an email from "Larry's T-bird" store. He believes that the FE 352 & FE 390 idler pulleys should be interchangeable. He emailed me pics of the FE 390...

Re: A/C idler pulley availability?

I did email the ebay seller, asking if the 390 engine idler pulley would fit on my 352; no response yet.
