Re: Chrome bumper on a jailbar Ford

This photo shows a typical jailbar truck as it appears today unrestored. I suppose its possible that bumper was chrome when new but just rust now. From an Alberta auction site.

Re: Chrome bumper on a jailbar Ford

I had a look through my catalogue Ford of Canada parts and there is no mention of chrome bumpers or headlight rings on the jailbar trucks.

Re: Chrome bumper on a jailbar Ford

I should consult my 1929-1949 Ford of Canada "Fast Moving Parts" catalogue to see if they list any options for the front end of these trucks.

Re: Chrome bumper on a jailbar Ford

There was no Mercury truck until 1947 and they went full on with chrome front end pieces. Most of the jailbar Fords I've seen (all Canadian) had plain steel bumpers and headlight rings.

Chrome bumper on a jailbar Ford

Photo of a local farmer here in Sask. and the chrome bumper on that jailbar Ford is the first I can recall seeing. Being mostly wartime production I would have thought chrome bumpers were not an...

Re: Evening Drive in the Merc

Wow. too hot for me. And the Merc too I suspect. I don't plan any long trips with it when the temp is even close to 90. I can recall just one day when it hit 40C which I think is around 100 F. I left...

Re: Evening Drive in the Merc

Hi Mark. The Merc cruises pretty good at highway speed here. Just takes a while to get up there.:)
The old truck has had no attention lately. Engine seized up solid and I know it was well worn even...

Evening Drive in the Merc

Short drive in the Merc this evening to see how the crops are doing. Cool and windy and the heat from the flathead felt good. https://youtu.be/tJQruHzXhIk

Re: 2024 video releases from Mart's Garage. All in this one thread.

Sure sounded good Mart. Music to my ears when the secondaies on a four barrel open up. Even though I'm more used to the quadrajets. I can see you don't get a lot of opportunity to "pedal to the...

Re: Polarizing the generator

I've never polarized the system on my 52 Merc and as far as I can tell everything works fine. And this car sat in the woods (without a battery) for over 30 years. The ammeter shows it is charging...

Re: Driving The 52 Merc

I saw pretty close to 60 degrees this afternoon. No wind, partly sunny and just nice working weather. Spent a good part of the day washing cars.
And yet we had a slight frost overnight.

Re: Driving The 52 Merc

Actually spring is pretty much right on time. Earlier than some years in fact. Roads have dried up enough to take the Merc out without getting muddy.

Driving The 52 Merc

Out for a first spring drive in the 52 Merc today. Beautiful weather and the Merc performed well. Some video of the drive. https://youtu.be/8esI_tM3Siw

Re: Testers ?

Maybe its just my cheap digital tester but I find it is useless when my 52 Merc is idling. The numbers are jumping all over the place just standing near the car with no connection to it. Ignition...

Re: Cadillac 331 in a Ford

I've never seen one but I've heard them referred to as "Fordillacs".

Re: Stuck Valve ?

I had several stuck valves on both the 39 Deluxe and the 52 Merc. Stuck open so I could spray real penetrating oil into the spark plug hole onto the valve and allow that to soak down the stem....

Re: 1948 Canadian Ford F-47

Date stamp on mine is just beside the voltage regulator. Colour is red body with black fenders. A very common pattern on those trucks here.

Re: 1948 Canadian Ford F-47

Looks like your firewall is too rusty or dirty to see through but on my 49 Merc M68 the date is stamped in yellow just below that i.d. plate on the firewall.

Re: How I did it.

My 39, also six volts, spins over fast on six volts and back when it had a good coil started very well. My 52 Merc, with a big six volt tractor batter always turns over quite slow on the starter, way...

Re: Stories from the past

Great idea, and story too. Coming up on 50 years ago I attended the auction sale of our local Ford dealer. No doubt missed a lot of opportunities but I did bring home a truck load of good Ford...

Re: Anyone else getting a pop up add after the first time they log on?

Nothing like that here. I don't have to log on and don't see ads. I'm automatically logged in all the time it seems. Only time I see an ad is when I go to add an attachment to a post and then I'll...

Re: 1952 Mercury Diff Question

My 52 with the Mercomatic has the stock 3.31 axle and its quite comfortable cruising the highway here at 60 mph. I haven't pushed it any higher but have no doubt there is plenty of top end left....

Re: 1952 Mercury Diff Question

There were different axle ratios for the 52 Merc depending on if you had the standard, automatic or overdrive transmission. 3.73 for the standard trans. 4.10 if it had overdrive. 3.31 with the...

Re: off-topic, but...

I usually reject all new trends in the hobby but have to say I have whole heartedly embraced the "patina" trend with my 52 Merc. And I don't mean just keeping it rusty as it came out of the woods. ...

Re: Oil canister for EAB 52 Ford

A good welder could fix that bracket and a little paint would make it good as new. Make sure you check that lower hose on the filter in case it is old and brittle like mine was. Luckily mine broke...
