Re: Did I Goof.....?
Without that raised tube or screen on top of the valve, its going to pull any crud on the bottom of the tank right into where the gas flows. Shine a light down in there and see if you have gunk stuck...

Re: Head Gasket Seeping Above Serial Number

Re: White walls
I think they look good either way. I had whitewalls on mine when I bought it, but they were OLD tires. Nearly 100% tread but completely dry-rotted. I wanted another set of whitewalls but after seeing...

Run the engine as low as you can where it runs smooth, take a can of starter fluid and give a quick spray where the intake meets the engine. If the RPMs change you've found your culprit.

Re: Gas Station
I rest the gas nozzle in the neck as high as it can sit and set the gas nozzle at the lowest notch. Flame arrestor screen taken out too. Pump always clicks off right about at the full mark on the gas...

Re: Leak on top of carb...
I see where it looks like its coming from the throttle shaft. It looks like its wet up above the throttle shaft, or is that just a shadow?
The only thing I could think would be fuel flowing out of...

Re: sign of the times
Unless the guy is missing a leg, there's no excuse. Anyone can learn to drive stick in an afternoon, it's not rocket science. I would think one of the qualifications of being a professional car mover...

Re: Tight crank gear
Contact whoever you bought it from and get them to replace it for you
Alternatively, take it down to your local shop and have them bore it to the size you're looking for
