Re: 1940 6 volt system failure to charge
Cutout relay in the regulator on my "56 bird refused to open. Generator was trying to "motor" at low rpms. I don't think your genny is going to take too much of that before failure.

Re: 4 Barrel Carb?
I went with the 4GC because of it's simplicity (applying the KISS philosophy). At one time I toyed with the idea of the “Teapot” but rejected the idea because like all Ford type carbs of the era very...

Re: Valve springs snug on guides
No disrespect intended to the wiser heads on this board But without understanding the term “snug” I really don’t think a valve spring chafing on a guide is such a good idea. There is bound to be some...

Re: 80 years ago today
When I came home in July of 1964, I had the honor and privilege of starting my steel erection career as an Ironworker under the tutelage of an Airborne brother who made the jump into Bastogne. He...

Re: pertronix distributor
absolutely use manifold vacuum. Much improved cooling at low/cruising speeds and drivability at any speed. And yes a measurable increase in fuel mileage. Every manufacturer used a vacuum advance of...

Re: pennies
Back in the 50s I always chocked that wheat penny nonsense up to the anal-retentive kids. Those of us that were actually interested in carburetor heat/manifold hotspot tuning looked in mom’s garbage...

Re: Ballast resistor for 12V coil
Don't forget the starter solenoid that has the tap to bypass the resister. I stuffed a 406 BBF in my '56 T-bird. The 312 started fine. Stuffed in the 406 and could not start it until I discovered the...

Re: 1949 ford sedan hood cable
One of my greatest fears, been going to ask that question for a very long time here. I think what I would do would be to pull the bar in the grill. Then a person could get his arm up there. I'm going...

Re: Annual MONSTER Swap Portland, Or
Sadly, the decline of the Portland swap meet has been ongoing for many years. I wish I had the answer. My friends and I had some great times there in the late 70s thru the 2000s when we moved to...

Re: Clutch?
Have had a CF duel friction 10" and flywheel from them for many years. Great products. I got tired of wearing out my hoist and wrenches using "original" 3 finger designs rebuilt from dubious sources....
