Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts
Always lock washers here too. Re the crank bolts. Make sure the back face of the clutch hub, where the springs are, clears the stock bolt heads. Flathead clutches have no stickout beyond the friction...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts
GB Some info that might help your friend. Be careful though because I have never had an 8BA.
9" clutch: 6 holes on 10-3/8" circle. 32degrees between each pair of bolts.
10" clutch: as above but...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts
I prefer the original steel tipped needle valves. I wouldn't use the #49s. 50s or 51s will be fine. Make sure the carb bodies are flat and fit together well. A vac leak to the power valve chamber...

Re: wtb- 1935 Ford cabriolet WS frame
As you have posted that you want an item, watch out for anyone contacting you saying they have that specific item. Scammers are known to operate like that.
Good luck in your search.

Re: Front Axle 1939 Ford pickup
Do you have the original long type lock stop nuts in place? Many kingpin sets do not have the original type nuts. You need the proper nuts to limit the angle the wheels will turn.

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts
Nice work. The lathe is an essential tool. You don't realise how essential until you have one. I've been doing a twin carb conversion and have been using my lathe and milling machine a lot lately.

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts
I'd say no on the cornhead grease. You could just put some thicker oil in it like gearbox oil or even chainsaw bar and chain oil. Or just plain oil.

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts
I think the question you need to ask yourself is how much time you expect to spend at wide open throttle. Is there a drag strip on the island? (Guessing not).

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts
I have a 255 cu in motor and it runs fine with a stock 94 8BA carb. I do note you said you don't have one of those. If you look closely at the base of the 1-1/16" carb you will note the bores are...

Re: Front Axle 1939 Ford pickup
The tubular link is the tie rod and that should be straight. The mainly solid one is the drag link and is normally not straight.

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts
Unless there was a gasket there previously I wouldn't use a gasket at the base of the pump. By using the gasket you have introduced a gasket's worth of end play. That will lower the pressure the pump...

Re: Front Axle 1939 Ford pickup
As long as the axle looks straight to the eye it will be ok. A slight error in straightness will not cause the problem you are describing.
One question, though, are the wheels aligned correctly when...
