Re: Valve lapping procedure
Have the seats been refaced with a match angle on the valves?
Lapping is generally very manual, old school rebuilding technology best saved for Briggs and Stratton engines that need a light...

Re: Reds Headers
Just like everything, there's always a history, and the Chiriaco Summit history is interesting! There's also a decent collection of early Fords, and Red's Headers which are manufactured at the...

Re: Reds Headers
The info Pete supplied is outdated. They're located at Chiriaco Summit now, 30 miles east of Palm Springs. The phone number is the same.
Victor runs it now and is active in the old ford scene. ...

Re: Door alignment problem on 29 CCPU
That's correct that jigs were used to speed up the assembly process while removing the trial and error that we go through as non-factory restorers. They were also used to quickly identify and...

Re: Tools/supplies needed while traveling
I don't think it's negative, just opinions. Just like the "what's your favorite oil", someone will always reply "non-detergent 30w, just like Henry required!". I don't carry carbs because I've...

Re: Tools/supplies needed while traveling
You leave the tillotson at home. It was warped before it went on the tour, so as mentioned you bandaid it and move along.
The needle and seat do wear when sitting under the seat for any amount...

Re: Door alignment problem on 29 CCPU
At a factory with factory ensured quality control for panel stamping, wood manufacturing and other things, with body jigs and all brand new parts. These haven't been factory assembled since mid-1930.

Re: Tools/supplies needed while traveling
Carbs will experience more wear under the seat of a car than on the engine. I can drop and clean the carb quicker than you can removing, finding the spare and bolting the replacement on.
The...

Re: Door alignment problem on 29 CCPU
I agree that hinge adjustments will likely get you closer to the solution, we cannot say for sure until it’s on the frame and adjusted. Shimming and bolting onto the frame account for a decent...

Re: Another carb needs repair
As is typically the case, we respond with missing info. I don’t use Tillotson carbs, so my comments apply to the factory issued Zenith carbs.

Re: Another carb needs repair
Those threads are for compression fittings. I’m not sure heli coils are made for a compression fitting to properly work. I don’t think time serts are made for that application either.
I’d look...

Re: Squeal that I can’t pinpoint
I think most of the comments are looking at this incorrectly. The OP describes it as a belt like squeal that goes away when the clutch is pressed. The throw out bearing spins when the clutch is...

The direct answer, which is helpful in future searches of the forum:
The picture shows an original Eaton gas cap. This is because of the vent holes and a side profile would show a height of about...

Re: sign of the times
If you look, just about all new semi’s and other heavy duty trucks are automatics. Most on the road today are automatic. Some manufacturers like Kenworth, don’t even offer manual transmissions. I...

Re: sign of the times
I’m sure most people on here also complained when the rotary phone went away, flip phones were replaced by iPhones and so on.
How many on here have driven and know how to operate a PDK style...
