Re: ‘53 ran hot, then missing badly. Head gasket?

I’ve been using NGK plugs… B-6L. Saw them recommended on FB several years ago for Offy heads. They all looked the same, pretty dark, not oily. Car has always run rich and I’ve tried several...

Re: ‘53 ran hot, then missing badly. Head gasket?

It was a new Mallory condenser, on a dual point Mallory distributor. I have an older one that was not causing heavy misses, maybe I’ll try it.

Still waiting for confirmation that the compression...

‘53 ran hot, then missing badly. Head gasket?

Just took my ‘53 Ranch Wagon to a local show and had to wait in line to park for quite a while. Temp gauge climbed to H but didn’t boil over. Vapor locked but switched on elec pump and made it to the...

Re: Nothing Seems to Fit!

I think I just ran a drill bit that was approximately the same diameter as the bolt through the hole to “ream” things to fit. I would only do that sort of thing if the misfit was minor. I agree with...

Re: Lacquer Paint fix?

I just bought some lacquer from TCP Global and had it shipped to me from CA. They custom matched and mixed some metallic green that I needed for the interior pieces and dash on my ‘46 Mercury. I sent...

Re: 1948 Mercury - 4 mystery holes

On my very original ‘46 Mercury, there was nothing there. I wondered the same thing, but I’m assuming the holes were not used.

Re: Need a copy of body mounts for 47 coupe

I just mounted the body on my ‘46 Mercury coupe using a Drake kit. I think I have the instructions somewhere. I will dig them out. I also broke a few running board bolts, and cut them out and welded...

‘46 Merc dash molding installation

What’s the trick to installing windshield garnish moldings on the inside of the windshield and above the dash? I have the dash in and new glass with a new Carpenter windshield gasket in place. But...

‘42-48 leftover parts

I’m restoring a fairly nice original ‘46 Mercury sedan-coupe, and I have some original stuff off it to get rid of. If you have a Rouge car, these items may be better than yours. I have the...

Re: 46-48 gas tank questions

It’s just me, but I always leave gas tanks to people who do that for a living. I know that I surely don’t know how to safely apply heat/flame to a tank that may have residual fuel or vapors. Please...

Re: Stories from the past

Funny you should mention Kurt McCormick. He was a friend of my big brother Doug, and he would occasionally come by Doug’s house in his orange blown hemi ‘32 three window. Doug and Kurt were probably...

Re: Looking for a machine shop

My machinist/rebuilder (who does many flatheads and rare and unusual old car motors) who was doing my 59A found a similar crack, and he refused to work on it any more. He said he wouldn’t warrant it,...

Re: making your own body trim clips

Agree with woodiewagon46… RS&S has tons of clips and many, many other items that have been hard to find elsewhere. They also have great service.

Re: ‘46 wiper control questions

I realize now that my Anco wiper motor is likely a replacement. I had googled it when I was getting it working a few months ago, and saw on the internet an application chart that showed all the...

‘46 wiper control questions

I’m restoring a ‘46 Mercury and I’m unclear how the wiper control knob assembly is put together. I assume it’s generally the same as a Ford. I know it’s supposed to go thru the bottom of the...

Re: Torque Tube Carrier Bearing

I just had Larry Shepard install one in my ‘46 torque tube, using a KRW tool designed for the job. It’s pretty straightforward. Without the tool, it would be quite a challenge. I assume you could...

Re: 36 five window interior panels

Google “upholstery panel board” and you’ll find what many people use. It’s waterproof and about $15 for a 32” x 48” sheet. I think it’ll be easier to to shape and cut than Masonite, and it’s a much...

Re: Can someone tell me what this is?

Ignition resistor on the left and circuit breaker on the right. Google “wiring diagram” for your vehicle and you’ll see it and how it’s wired up. Both are pretty important

‘46 Dash Plastic repair & paint

On my ‘46 Mercury, the original dash plastic is discolored and crazed or full of shallow cracks in some areas. I’m looking for ideas on products to use to refinish the parts. I’ve been reading SEM...

Re: Carter Model B&B carburetor help

Seth,
Maybe try Carbco in south St. Louis. 314-544-3020. They’ve helped me with parts and rebuilds in the past. Good luck.

Re: ‘46 Choke and Throttle rods

Graeme was right… I just pulled the metal sleeves out of the rubber on each end. It was easy. I was assuming the rubber was moulded (maybe even vulcanized???) onto the metal sleeves. Nope… just...

Re: 1946 coupe door screws

My ‘46 Mercury (same body as Ford) has oval Phillips screws for all the hinges to the body. And I think that Michael Driskell at Thirdgen has them. The lower hinges to cowl post have loose nuts and...
