What...

Re: preventing carpet damage

It might have been to use a hot soldering iron or a heated old pointed punch. It melts a hole thru the carpet & fibers so they don't unravel, leaves a clean round hole with a 'bound' edge.

Re: 1956 Vikky fuel sender

As mentioned, the King Seeley fuel sensors don't use (variable) resistance in the sensor.
They use heat sensitive bi-metal switching contacts to regulate electrical flow thru the gauge.

The Ohm...

Re: Horn “fade” on a ‘62

My first guess would be corrosion on the points contacts could cause arcing leading to more arcing deposits and worsening the problem, thus the fade out.

Re: Horn “fade” on a ‘62

Use a jumper wire from the battery direct to the horns.
That will bypass the horn relay so you can rule it in or out as a potential problem.

If the horns work well powered with a jumper wire,...

Re: steering box

I've got a '55 steering box and a '57 steering box, the top covers aren't the same.

IF, the original steering boxes in full-sized '55/'57 Fords look the same on top as these '55 and '57 T-Bird...

Re: Mercury 312

While you're in there you might check the loose / noisy one for a bent pushrod.
They can bend if a valve is sticking.

Re: Fuel issues

1955FordF350, if you get air whooshing in or out of the tank when you loosen or remove the gas cap, the vent or vented cap isn't working.

Re: 1957 T-Bird Power Brakes

So based on the "S" (Thunderbird) designation it seems '55 Birds used one style and '56 / '57 Birds used the other.
With the '55 version being the same as used in '54 to '56 full-sized cars.

After about a year driving it around the (original 68 yr old ?)...
