Re: how to repair top casting on sidebowl carburetor???

When I took a night school welding class in 1977 or so, the instructor said to use "machinable nickel rod" for cast iron.

Re: installing grease baffle on front wheels Model AA truck

I've only seen car hubs, but is the AA setup much different from this?

Re: 1931 model a engine

When you reinstall, use a graphite gasket and follow the torquing directions carefully.

Re: Dropping the oil pan

Speaking for myself, I would strongly consider pulling the engine so that I could check the crank shims with the motor on the stand and do a better job than on my back underneath.

Re: Dropping the oil pan

That tool is easy to make from a brass pipe plug, if you like making your own tools.

Re: Rebuilt Engine Options

With at least the 6:1 head, you need to manipulate the spark advance lever more to suit the engine’s needs. Also maximum advance is less. I have gotten used to it and it is as comfortable as double...

Re: Dust bowl AA

Do we like our A's because then we don't have to keep our goats in the cab with us like with our "modern" cars? :D

Re: Fitting Spindle Bolt - King pin in new bushings

I used a piloted adjustable reamer and snuck up to a nice fit for the kingpin. It was much like this: https://www.mcmaster.com/3027A16/

Re: Fitting Spindle Bolt - King pin in new bushings

Be sure to test fit the cotter through the axle with the kingpin in place to make sure it will go in before having the hub in place.

Re: Steering Wheel Slop

I found my kingpin play by jacking up the axle on one side and trying to move the wheel at the bottom. My two tooth steering is as low slop as a modern car.

Not A, But Interesting

Forging Bugatti front axles, appears to be from 1991 or so. I wondered how they made them hollow, but they drilled the forging before bending.

Re: new guy, old car

Google can tell you where to buy, but read the MSDS to make sure you want to use it.
