Re: 1947 17" Tonner wheels/Cap retainer clips

Yes, I cited the 82Y 1034 in my early on email to Rick. None of the online sellers (Parts Voice, Rear Counter, Green) have any. I suggested then, and suggest now, one of the various reproduction...

Re: !3" rims for a 1940 Ford PU

As a practical matter, isn’t a custom built set your answer? Find your drop center 13” donor rims, widen them if required, cut down a set of common 15” or 16” Ford center discs then weld into the...

Re: !3" rims for a 1940 Ford PU

Sadly no, only US manufactures during this era. The fact that these wheels and hubs are found on multiple makes of vehicles again points to the military origin for them which would, if the pattern...

Re: !3" rims for a 1940 Ford PU

I think adding your prior discussion on the HMVF forum adds to our understanding of these wheels. Sounds like both the wheels and hubs were unique to these vehicles. Stu

Re: !3" rims for a 1940 Ford PU

Helpful here that these pictured rims are true one piece drop center style vs the semi drop center two piecers I found. That helps you recreate them. If wide 13” rims can’t be found a custom wheel...

Re: !3" rims for a 1940 Ford PU

I’m stumped now. I just went through wheel industry technical references 1935 to 1949 and find no listing for a 13” rim. Nothing. No agricultural, motor scooter, industrial, construction, etc,...

Re: !3" rims for a 1940 Ford PU

Those wheels look to be the 5 x 5.5” pattern wheels I found record of. They are K-H 23403 / Ford CO1A-1015 (or is it C01A-1015? I couldn’t tell from the old reference.) Sold in set #1331. ...

Re: !3" rims for a 1940 Ford PU

I just went through my late 1930s and 1940s wheel references and find M-H number LD6-5372-A listed in their September 1948 parts list. Interesting, but not unexpected, this wheel is not listed in...

Re: 16" split rims - Can you chrome them?

I found no Budd listing for the 16” locking side ring wheels having 5 x 5.5” pattern. A deeper search might show they were of another manufacturer.

Your TAAA 1007B (K37717) wheels are 1954...

Re: Differences in truck wheels

The 34800 is a 5” (3.75”) RH that was replaced by 35820 per Budd’s 1941 listing. Stu

Re: 1940 3/4-1 Ton express frame measurements

Thanks Karl. Email with three charts sent. And thanks Owen for trying to train me. I got to the point of attaching files and I lost it. Will continue to try to learn. Stu

Re: 1940 3/4-1 Ton express frame measurements

I have the Salesman’s Data Book for 1941, but not 1940. It has charts with dimensions. I would assume they are the same as 1940, please say if it is not, but the problem I have here is posting...

Thanks for the nice words, but I fear I’m not much help to the new member. I don’t have any available. If you, or anyone, has available wheels and needs help in identifying them I can try to help. ...

Re: Motor Wheel 15 6L” 685?

Looks like this has to be MW #37132-S / NWRA cross reference #X-45229. It’s the only MW product fitting the description in the MW 1980 catalog and through to 1985 in NWRA catalogs. It reaches back...

Re: Motor Wheel 15 6L” 685?

Yeah, when radials came on market in the 1960s/70s the wheel manufacturers began to experience failures due to the greater flex of radials. Welding of the discs to the rims addressed it. I’ve also...

Re: Motor Wheel 15 6L” 685?

Is the center disc welded to the rim or riveted? If it’s welded that’s the build date, if riveted probably not. Surprising to me that you aren’t finding a five digit part number. MW as a rule...

Re: Motor Wheel 15 6L” 685?

A MW product would have been either after market on a Ford, or maybe a Jeep wheel. I tried looking them up based on just what you found but the part number would have five digits instead of three. ...

Re: Differences in truck wheels

If you look closely at the back sides of the rings you’ll find the Firestone RI info and rim widths molded into the metal. The RI rims (Dayton style open center) and RH rims (fixed center disc) of...

You don’t yet know whether the variety of wheels you have share the same rim/ring design. Probably don’t from your description. Even within the common Firestone RH/RI design family the rings are...

Reaching back to your first post mentioning 1947, these older locking side ring wheels (Firestone RH style) have remained viable replacement wheels for our guys with the 1948 to 1970s era trucks. In...

Re: Differences in truck wheels

A quick look at Budd’s 1944 catalog shows the BB-1015-D / Budd 35280 having the narrower 3.75” rim (measured using the modern system across the inner base rim). The old system called it a 5” rim...

Re: Differences in truck wheels

Find the Budd numbers on your wheels and I’ll look them up for you. Probably found on the concave side center discs, most likely for your era. Later wheels would have the numbers on the rear rim...
