K&N replacement for Air Maze I'm not sure if this has been posted before but I didn't see it in the archives. I found the replacement no. for the K&N replacement for the high volume Air Maze filter. You will have to use a piece of all thread and a wingnut to extend a standard length filter. The K&N no. is E-9257. This is the cleanable filter that will pass more air than the paper filters. It fit right into the holder and works great on both of my As. It was $37.50 at Auto Zone and they had it in one day. It should be cheaper in the long run as you clean and reoil instead of having to replace it.

Re: K&N replacement for Air Maze I use the K&N E-3050 Custom Air Filter available on line at ajusa.com for $25.59 and the cleaning kit for $12.95. Get together with some fellow club members and order enough to get free shipping for orders over $75.
This filter is 3.5 in OD and 3.5 in length and fits in my original air maze housing with a longer bolt. This filter is closed on one end and all you need is a longer bolt and drill a hole in the closed end of the filter. Have one on my 31 slant window for 10+ years and 30,000 miles. Re: K&N replacement for Air Maze I wanted the longer one to pass more air but either will work. It has the 3.5" outside diameter but is 5.5" long. It fits tightly inside the housin and the endcap. I'm sure it can be found cheaper online somewhere.

Re: K&N replacement for Air Maze I bought one that has a curved pipe routing the K&N filter under the carburetor. Works great.

Re: K&N replacement for Air Maze 1 Attachment(s)
I'm with Glenn, I got the U shaped air maze tube then added an E-2190 K&N filter at a length of 5 3/4 X 4" dia. If I do get any gas drips they run down and out lower and farther forward than if they came out of the carb.

Clyde, I had the same filter setup that you are running, but opt'ed for the Hi-Boy filter also made by "Fit-It-Eddie, LLC". It has the same large K&N filter element, but it sits above the carburetor so there is no chance if it becoming saturated with fuel, which can cause hard starting or a fire.

Re: K&N replacement for Air Maze As an aside, is there any way to keep an Air Maze from rattling loose? Mine is constantly falling off, and I am scared I am going to crack the carburetor if I tighten it anymore.

Re: K&N replacement for Air Maze Good luck, lost the first one I'd put on.
Not using one now. Paul in CT |
Re: K&N replacement for Air Maze Here is a photo of the original Air-Maze on my car with a K&N E-3050 air filter. I have had this assembly on for approximately 12 years and 30,000 miles. The set screw has never become loose, in part due to the locking nut that is tightened down just like the set screw for holding the distributer in the head. If the reproduction Air-Maze does not have a locking nut adding one could keep you from losing the Air-Maze and the K&N filter.

Re: K&N replacement for Air Maze Looks like I need to add a locking nut, Thanks! The repro doesn't have it.
