35 wheel adapters
 

I started a 32 sedan project in one direction and am now heading into another with it. I have 4 wheel disc brakes with 5 on 4.5" pattern but now want to run a set of 35 wires that I have. I am wondering if anyone knows of an adapter for this without spacing the wheels way out.

Most adapters are 1" thick.Try to find 1 1/4" thick ones because of the recess of the mounting flange of the stock 35 wires.They do appear on EBAY all the time.

Rally America makes and sells them. I think they are a hamb alliance vendor. Theirs has the support ring/lip built into it so entire load isn't on the lug holes.

As noted, the adapters add an inch or so to the track width on each side. You might consider another alternative, and Rally America would be one source, have a 4 1/2" center welded in the '35 wheels to replace the stock one. No offset issues then.

Depending on the style of disc/hub you've got you could also have those redrilled to the 5 1/2" pattern.

Does anyone know? Can you mount '35 wire wheels on the disc kits that are 5 on 5 1/2? I'm asking this related question because of an idea I have for a future project car.

36tbird, No. All early Ford wire wheels mounting surfaces are recessed in on the hub flange so adapters or spacers with support lip as T&A noted are needed.Wheel Vintiques makes a wire wheel that will work for you.

I would guess that most disk brake kits that have 5-1/2" bolt pattern will work with 40's style steels, but PROBABLY not with wires. Quite apart from the raised support needed near the center of the wheel, the wires have a big piece at the outer edge of the center that goes back a long way. This will foul most disk brake calipers.

Anything can be solved by moving the wheel out with an adaptor, but whether the added offset would be desirable or not is another matter.

I have seen a model A running 35 type wires with disks, but I do not know if it was a commercial kit or home made.
