Changing Glass

Hi Everyone,

I have new glass for a 31 Tudor rear window. Is there an easy way to remove the old glass from the track? The old glass is already broken so I am not too worried about damage to it. Do I heat the track?

Thanks,
Jim

Sorry, I meant Rear Side Glass that rolls up and down.

Thanks,

Do you mean removing the glass from the metal piece across the bottom, that moves the glass up and down? Try working a thin putty knife down either side to free up the glass.
Another handy tip: use mineral spirits as a lube when installing the new glass with the rubber or cork setting material.

I found that if I warmed up the metal the glass pulled right out, along with the rubber piece. I have new rubber material that came with the glass, but I think it is too thin?
The glass with the gasket slides in and out too easy. Am I supposed to use any type of adhesive?
Thanks,
Jim

Try to find the correct thickness. Years ago I installed glass into a windhsield frame for a 1930 AA. I bought the setting material from Bratton's and also from Snyder's. The first was too thick and the second was just right. I don't recall which one had the right thickness.

You also need to be mindful that the replacement safety glass may be thinner than the original glass. Gar Williams
