How To Age A Trunk?

I repaired an old trunk to put on my original 1931 Tudor. I used "black wood furniture stain" to make it all the same color. However, it turned out too shiny (sp?) for the faded paint of the Tudor. Question: What method or substance can I do to remove the shine of the trunk's finish? Thanks.

What about a dry dust of spray paint, maybe a couple flat dark primers?

I like the light misting of flat black spray paint. The steel wool works. Hobby shops also have a clear coat spray called " Dull Coat " .

You might try a Scotch-Bright pad. If that doesn't
work, then you could re-paint it.
