Correct Paint Color for Starter

I suppose I could look this-up in a reference book, but I happen to be on-line now. What is the correct paint color for the starter motor? Engine green or black? Thanks!

And it looks better if it isn't thick and super shiney, like some I've seen. A couple of thin coats from a spray can of gloss black will look good.

The new Restoration Guidlines states, "All starters were painted black. The color varied from satin to semi-gloss".

I've been using Rustoleum satin black thinned with Acetone to spray, can leave in gun for small parts...it has the correct patina for most frame and running gear parts, plus generator and starter...

Be sure not to paint the surface that contacts the flywheel housing as it is part of the ground path. And yes, it is black.
