Re: Who would believe?....the places that you find a flathead V8...!! One of my uncles had a Hillman back in the fifties. He said that when they got to a steep hill the whole family had to get out and push! Must not be the original motor.

Re: Who would believe?....the places that you find a flathead V8...!! Looking at the water pump and distributor I think that is a Simca
V8, basically a Ford V8 60 HP. |

Re: Who would believe?....the places that you find a flathead V8...!! The Simca flathead is a copy of the Ford V-8 sixty design but with a few improvements.
As noted above there's a single more modern water pump and the distributer is also a big improvement. Also improved is the actual engine cubes by way of a longer stroke crankshaft this helped with the actual horse power which is a lot more than the Ford 60 horse. Also mentioned above this block was further improved by adding overhead valve heads and a modern two barrel carb the horse power was now 160. The engine looks like a miniature ARDUN its called the Emi Sul. It was offered as the high performance engine during production by Simca Brazil from the mid sixty's until around 1971 the car the engine was installed in used the GTX initial's. The overhead valve version of the engine was developed in the mid sixty's strictly for use in Brazil the engine production numbers are in the 30,000 range. Ronnieroadster |
