Anybody know how to keep 1940 thermostates from ending up up inside the hose---upside down and backwords------------???????????or just go back to the stock ones--------------they worked when the cars were new----?????????--------

Drill two small holes toward the top of the neck of each head and the rim of the T stat. Use thin gauge stainless safety wire, tied them down and reinstall hose.

The factory hoses had a flare in the part where they connect to the head to keep the T stat in place.

I've had very good luck using Stant Super Stats @ 180 degrees. I believe they fit Subaru Justys.

Ten years ago I bought reproduction hoses with the molded flare from one of the usual vendors. Never had a traveling stat problem. Are these molded flare hoses no longer available?

I just out a second hose clamp above the thermo to keep it home …

Re: Guerrini

Just put a hose clamp an inch above the stat, and just squish the
hose a little bit, just enough to keep the stat from creeping up. ;)

Or push a piece of stainless tubing up the hose a little so the stat can't drift up. A strip bent into a circle will do if no tub available.

I think the ones from Bob Drake have the flare. I've been seeing some that do not have that molded in.

Rick @ Noble Speed makes a nifty solution as well. Those Super Stats welded into a piece of stainless pipe.

I do like Mart does. A hose clamp at the head, and another at the short tube.

I cut a piece of hose that fits snugly inside the existing hose and use a polyurethane marine adhesive, usually Sikaflex to keep them in place. These inserted pieces are about 1 1/2" long. And x2 on the subaru justy thermostats.

I do what Mart does, 1" of stainless steel tube inside. Keeps thermostat in position.

Re: Guerrini

I have never had to add anything to a thermostat or use a second hose clamp on any 37-48 style V8 engine. I have used the hoses with the molded flare where they go over the head. I just set the thermostat on the head outlet, shove the hose down over the thermostat and head outlet, and tighten the hose clamp.

I did a quick look around for these types of hoses for 1939 Deluxe / 1940 / 1941 V8 and found they are out of stock. Sign of the times we live in.

I do this and put a second hose clamp to keep the short piece of stainless in place - works perfectly.

The best way to fix this is to go back to the stock thermostats--they are much larger and cant go up the hose----ford had it figured out----ebay stuff now 155---temp------------- and they open up not down----

Re: Guerrini

They make the original hoses-----they do have a flare to them---some people are out of stock i did get a set of new ones-------i was lucky---
