Stromberg inlet valve wrong size 2 Attachment(s)
I have what I believe to be a Stromberg 48. Marked 1 1/32. Trying to rebuild it and the inlet valve from stromberg is too small for the hole in the carb. Only see one inlet valve on Stromberg's site. What am I missing? TIA.

Re: Stromberg inlet valve wrong size At some stage I'd guess that the thread was stripped in the body of the carb, was tapped oversize and a special oversized threaded fitting was used

Re: Stromberg inlet valve wrong size The one on the bottom in the first picture and on the right in the second picture appears to be an after-market Grose-Jet style needle & seat float assembly....

Re: Stromberg inlet valve wrong size It is. Straight from Stromberg. My problem isn't the style, it is that the threads are different size. I would like to replace mine and can't seem to find one that is the larger size thread.

Re: Stromberg inlet valve wrong size Try Speedway Motors > https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Grose...tor,42294.html
or > https://stromberg-97.com/parts/s-jet-inlet-valve/ Stromberg may have screwed up and sent you the wrong size valve...Call them and talk to a real person... |
Re: Stromberg inlet valve wrong size The larger inlet is a repair to the threads which have been increased in size. So the new inlet does not fit because it is of standard size. The original size is 7/16" and the oversize is 1/2" You can contact Max Musgrove, the repair technician at Stromberg for a reducer so you can use the standard size or look for another top casting. If you go with the reducer locktight it in place so it does not leak or come out.

Re: Stromberg inlet valve wrong size Back in the day there were several different oversized fuel inlet fittings to repair the original fuel inlet that was usually caused by too heavy a hand when tightening the original fuel fitting. I have had several different over-sized fittings in the past.

Re: Stromberg inlet valve wrong size talk to uncle max get it back to standard saves headaches down the track

Re: Stromberg inlet valve wrong size I have made inserts. I had bought a couple at a swap and found the damage at home. I used a 9/16 fine bolt and tapped it to the inlet thread. I partially tapped the lid to the 9/16 threads so the insert could not screw thru. The gasket still seated on the lid. They for sure never stripped out again.

Re: Stromberg inlet valve wrong size All curant Stromberg valves are Gross jet style. I had a problem of them sticking closed after sitting for the winter. The last few years that has not happened and they work well. I looked for standard type valves at Daytona
carburetor, but was told they do not make them for 97's. John |
Re: Stromberg inlet valve wrong size I have nos valves dm for prices and quantity needed

Re: Stromberg inlet valve wrong size I'm not a fan of the Grose Jet too. I did a six carb set up on an '57 Olds J2 engine, and two of the six carbs had flooding issues. The fuel pressure was not excessive.
Too bad all of the official Stromber carb kits come with them. Sal |
