Radiator support rods- nuts & washers?

finding lots of missing/incorrect/incomplete fasteners on our new '29.

looking for an illustration and/or description of nuts and washers used on the rods at both ends.

is it in the Judging Standards somewhere?

FWIW, the repro rods I bought (I don't recall from where) were a larger diameter than the originals, and used different (although still SAE head size) nuts. I can be easily corrected, but the original rods may have been 1/4" and the repros maybe 13 mm?

The original use of nuts, bolts, screws, washers, pins, etc. that assemble / attach parts are all defined in the Ford Parts Price Lists. Another creditable source of hardware is the "Ford Model A Standard Hardware 1928-1931 Bolts, Screws, Nuts and Washers by Mick Isbell. Mick's booklet was jointly published by MARC & MAFCA.

I purchased a large amount of original hardware (bolts, washers, nuts, screws) a few years ago. It is all sorted by part number. If you have the part numbers, I might have what you need. [email protected]

The '28s were a tube with a visible seam. The '29s were a solid rod. I don't know when the change over was.

The 1928-29 used larger diameter rods than 1930-31.

Yes the hollow ones are ⅜". The solid ones are slightly smaller.

Re: Radiator support rods- nuts & washers?

Restoration Guidelines, Engine Compartment page 1-16: "The radiator support rods were 3/8" diameter seamed tubular type from the beginning of production through mid 1929 when they were changed to 9/32" solid steel for the remainder of production."
Per the finishes chart, the rods were painted black and the washers and nuts were raven finish.

"Through mid 1929" would mean through August.
