Shut off valve filter Good morning. I developed a backfire in our coupe again. Lack of power and loud cracks out the exhaust. Brought it home and put compressed air through the gas line and once again temporarily fixed the issue. I’m going to replace the
Pencil filter in the shut off valve. Is their a supplier that sells a particular one that works best or are they all the same? Thank you |
Re: Shut off valve filter I have always had good luck with the sediment bowl. If the fuel flow is low enough the crap settles out. If needed a filter can be added that is easy to change. I have always used the glass ones. Not sure what your car has but you may want to consider the glass sediment bowl.
Clarification: I was suggesting the sediment bowl instead of the filter in the bottom of the tank. |
Re: Shut off valve filter I have the glass sediment bowl with wix filter. It’s the gas valve under the dash. That filter I’m assuming needs to be replaced

Re: Shut off valve filter Hi, Snyders sells a "Fuel Shut Off Valve" with a "A-9193 Screen"; $34.00. I have both in the last year and they work as advertised-"Wont Leak!". Definitely a major upgrade as I went thru 2 different valves in the previous 7 years.

Re: Shut off valve filter Hi again, I should have mentioned that the A-9193 TX screen has to be separately purchased with the valve; cost is $5.60.

Re: Shut off valve filter It appears you have a lot of loose sediment, rust, or whatever in your tank. Maybe you should park on an incline and at minimum drain it and flush it a couple of times before installing filters.

Maybe you need a "dirty leg":

Re: Shut off valve filter I buy 6 pencil filters at a time and always have them on hand for the "next A"
I also use the bowl on the firewall with a magnet in the bottom. Everything seems to work pretty well. This is after a major flush upon purchase of a "new" car. |
Re: Shut off valve filter I will try and clean the tank. It seems decent but who knows what settles down their. My shut off valve works fine. Is it ok to just change the filter?

Re: Shut off valve filter Thank you everyone!

Re: Shut off valve filter When I purchased my ball valve from Snyder's last year they were also out of the pencil filter then I used my older style round pencil filter and a little bit of JB weld on the new valve and everything worked fine!!!

Re: Shut off valve filter 1 Attachment(s)
The tank in my Victoria was thoroughly cleaned before installing it during the car's restoration. However, fine sediment continues to be trapped in the bowl. I have a pencil screen in the gas shutoff valve and the glass bowl is completely stock. My expectation is that there will always be some sediment in the gasoline.
