49 Ford F-1 PU Fuel Gauge Question

1949 Ford F-1 PU

Replaced fuel gauge and sending unit with new Bob Drake units.
Note: The gauge cluster and tank are grounded.

After replacement of both gauge did not work at all.

Removed Drake unit and reinstalled original sending unit
- gauge works, however, pulsates/fluctuates between Full and Half Tank reading

I'm posting for a friend and he is seeking any assistance or thoughts on this matter. Thank you in advance. LouB.

Re: 49 Ford F-1 PU Fuel Gauge Question

With fuel gauges and sending units, it is often easier to troubleshoot before fully installing the sender. Check the connections - both signal and power.

Re: 49 Ford F-1 PU Fuel Gauge Question

Put an extra ground wire on one of the screws of the sending unit to see if that helps.

Ford46: Hopefully your friend still has the OEM KS Gas Tank Sending unit.
If so, this thread will be very helpful, especially post #3.
