I remember the first time I had to put lube on my A when I did my brakes. Thought that you had to coat all the parts until they were practically dripping with grease. After I had a club member came over and call me a grease monkey when he inspected my job I learned that just a dab'll do ya for most things :)

I see nothing wrong here, I'd much rather see a greasy A than a dry one. Dry=wear=$$$ :eek:

Many moons ago, there was a newcomer to Model A's on his first long distance trip. In preparation for the trip, he took his Model A to friends service station to grease the car. As we left entered onto Staten island during our trip, his newly restored Model A overheated. Upon a roadside investigation it became apparent that he pumped a lot of grease into the rear bearing of the water pump. Enough grease to partially fill the cooling system. His Model A went home on a flatbed.

On any new-to-me car I make an early task to pull the front hubs and inspect/regrease the wheel bearings. On my '30 TS I found that the wedges and lower portion of the shoes were just loaded with grease. I guess the person who did that must have been taught to "thoroughly lubricate" like Mike 1291 above. What a freakin' mess! Brake shoes were coated and the drum surface was glazed.

Mine looked that way when I bought it. It takes some practice to learn the right amount to use. I didn't see any peeking out of the front water pump grease point so I kept pumping the gun. When I got home from a drive the entire inside of the engine compartment...and the fenders were covered in blue grease spatters. I learned.

An old friend of mine, now dead, used to say "Take it easy, go greasy." But I think he was referring to food.

I have cleaned the mess up, none of the fittings were stopped up when I added a shot of grease.
Afterwards I wipe off any access grease. Like to see clean nipples.

No machine part has ever broken due to too much lubrication. But many have blocked due to too little lubrication.
I always pump a generous amount of (MoS2) grease into the bearing bushes and wipe off the mush that comes out.

I was taught to pump in grease till I just begin to see grease coming out again. That is usually old grease but new grease has been added to the TINY amount that is actually in the bearing. There is NO POINT pumping till you have a big gob of grease like that but I can understand how sometimes, it is difficult to see when and where it starts to come out.
What come out like we see the in original pictures is just plain wasted.
