Seat options for 31 pickup

I’m keeping my eyes open for a set of seat springs for a 31 pickup I’m rebuilding as a driver. If I can’t find a used set of springs, I’ll go the plywood/thick foam route, but I do have a couple questions. Are the bottom seat springs the same for all Model A cars and trucks? Are there any bench seat springs from more modern cars or trucks that are known to fit a 31 pickup? TIA!

I have some unidentified seats that may fit pickups, so if someone puts up the identifying features I’ll check the ones I have.

There are 2 different 31 seat bottom springs. Use the seat riser as you guide. The seat backs are the same.

on top of all that- are you average in size? if not you may want to make some alterations.

And in this case "average size" means are you of average size for 1931. The average male was around 5' 7" in 1931. If you're of average size in 2024, the seat will be a tight fit. At 6' 1" I don't get into or out of my friend's PU easily.

Ok. I'm 6', 205lbs and not as limber as I used to be. I need to make some repairs to the riser first, then I'll play around with some plywood and cushions to see what I'm dealing with. Thanks!

I sold my 30 CCPU because my copilot, after two hip replacements, just could not get in and out easily. Truth be told, it was getting a bit dicey for me too, but I’d never admit that to her. As far as I know it had standard seat springs. So if I had kept it, some changes would have been indicated.

And if you think a pickup is tight, try a phaeton.

I have a friend that used the third seat from a Caravan. He is tall,so he needs both the cushion and backrest to be thin.He just took both parts off the Caravan framework, and just set them in there. On my 28 open cab,my 30 open cab,and my 30 closed cab I made the backrests with 3/4 plywood and foam.I stripped the upholstery off the springs and just put it over the foam. You will need seat foam,NOT dime store craft foam.

X2 what Keith mentioned. I needed a temporary seat for my coupe and found a clean Caravan seat for $100. It's mounted on a plywood base with hinges so I can flip it up or fold it down, it also has headrests for safety. It works so well that I might just keep it and recover with Model A fabric some day. It looks grey in the photo but is actually black.

I just sold a cut down sedan, that was made into a pu.

It had a bus seat in it and it fit pretty well.

6' and Ild guess you;ld want to make a little room on the back and lower cushion. Im the same height, but a bit heavier and had trouble getting in and out of my rpu.

I have a pair of repro CJ5 seats in my '31 CCPU. They work for me, and my wife likes them as well.

Check out https://www.glideengineering.com/ they make different kinds of seats for Model A’s. You can have them upholstered to fit your own needs.

I'm still a ways from getting to the upholstery, but I've been paying attention because I'm 6'1" and am working on a '29AA. I've crafted my own tilt column, decided to keep the stock seat but will use 3/4" plywood and foam for the back. Four years ago I had cancer (beat it!) and lost 65 pounds that I can't gain back, then in June I caught a virus that led to pneumonia and lost another 15 pounds. Nothing makes it easier to fit in a tight space than less of you. Caution: these examples are not desired weight loss methods. Anyway, now I'll fit without my knee caps in my nostrils.
