Thoughts on AA 4speed shift towers .

It looks like I was not the only one not working out how to get the cap off . The hidden cap lock pin grooves were the key . There are many interior cab shots of AA cabs on You tube and some have modifications such as nuts welded to the cap each side . Some with pegs sticking out etc etc . This must have been an early problem as Warner Gear went to the threaded cap and tower and single pin . Much better system but more expensive to manufacture . I got mine apart without any terminal damage and MIG repaired the heavily wallowed out ball slot . In the early shifter the slot is open at the bottom so you have to lay a piece of metal in so you dont weld the reverse rod to the shaft . I did this and prised it out afterwards . The locating pin hole was very worn so I filled it with J B Weld and drilled out . Might not last too long but plan "B" is to drill out and fit suitable cut down drill bit . Nice tight shifter now a big difference .

I know after I redid mine I was amazed at how tight the shifter was before that mine moved literally 8 or 9" in all directions and you couldn't even tell which gear it was in.
