36 transmission mount question
 

The plate (B5099a) which goes between the rubber mount and the back of the transmission. The arrow points to the rubber stamping. This was facing the rubber on the mount towards the rear of the car, away from the transmission, opposite what I have shown in the picture. It seems to me that it should be in the direction I have placed it in order for the rear gasket to be effective. Otherwise the protruding rib on the other side would only touch the gasket partially. I doubt that these are original to the vehicle as it is from a 39 transmission installed in 36.

The side marked “rubber” should face the rubber. The side where the ring pokes out touches the gasket. If you don’t like it you can use one of the more common plates that are flat. In truth it probably doesn’t matter a whole lot.

Will, Thanx. It just does not seem right. My head is probably getting in the way. Do you think it would matter if I installed it the way I have indicated? I do not know the part # of the flat plates.

Look for a stamping in the metal. Put it on the way it is marked.

B-5099 is the part number of the flat plate.

Thanks David. I did find that 36 was B 5099 A. I just cannot wrap my head around the protruding rib facing the gasket in only a very small area. The remaining 95% gasket area would have no use whatsoever. Will Kimble mentioned that more common is the flat plate and could be used. If I turn it around it would work like a flat plate as the rib would fit inside the rubber isolation ring. At my age I only want to do this once! LOL Thanx for all the help folks.

I received a new "FLAT" B 5099 from Mac VanPelt this morning. I liked that way it went together and seemed to make a much better application. Thanx Mac VP for the part and your conversation!
