Transmission roller bearing grease I'm rebuilding my '39 transmission. Van Pelt book says nothing about packing the 7025 and 7065 roller bearings with grease, nor does Wired Custom's video. Should they be packed? If not why?
Thanks for your help |
Re: Transmission roller bearing grease Just done one of these ,transmissions don't use grease , a little oil on the needle rollers on assemble, before you put the lid on pour the oil over all the gears .Dont use sealed bearings on the rear ,

Re: Transmission roller bearing grease Just use some of the gear oil you are going to put in the finished product.
As long as not dry, it will be fine.. |
Re: Transmission roller bearing grease Thank you!

Re: Transmission roller bearing grease I have a clear ketchup bottle I bought at the Dollar Store full of 600W oil. I use it on all the bearings and thrust washers. Same with rear end bearings
|
Re: Transmission roller bearing grease I use engine assembly lube on most of these bearings (if they are new). It is thin enough to coat everything and MAYBE it helps during initial run-in (probably not - I'm just a bit anal!). LOL

Re: Transmission roller bearing grease I use "transmission assembly goo", yes thats the product name. Good for sticking the thrust washers on , and sticking on the roller bearings. especially on the later needle type bearings
