‘47 rear brake cylinder question

Hi all, started putting used rear ‘47 brake backing plates on my ‘35, part of the Hydraulic conversion, & decided to change the rear cylinders before installing. I see the cylinders for a car are significantly more expensive by a factor of 5 than for a pickup? I’m cheap LOL :D so can the car brake cylinders b swapped out for the less expensive PU truck cylinders? $20 vs $120:eek:

The car and pickup cylinders are the same...they have a stepped bore. I'm thinking your cheaper pickup cylinders could be for the next series of pickup , ie bonus built , which are of plain bore design, hence would be cheaper to manufacture...Best bet is to try and cross reference part numbers back to the Ford part numbers to actually verify what you're dealing with.

Where are you finding $120? I looked at Rock Auto, Van Pelt, and C&G and
they are no where near that.

I’m breaking down the rear brake assy & just notice I’m missing the emergency actuater part in 1 assembly. Kind of a boomerang shape part approx 6”. Uses a hole on the shoe on one side & connects E-cable on the other? Anyone know what the parts called so I can look for one, is it unique right to left, it’d be great if someone has an extra.

Re: ‘47 rear brake cylinder question

Are you talking about the "Emergency brake lever" 2103 RH and 2104 LH. If so the answer is yes they are unique to each side.

Vanpelt's shows them.
