Coolant blew out overflow on radiator?

8BA/ flushed engine, put new antifreeze green, while idling during timing & carbs adjust it decided to blow out about a quart or so of new coolant. I have temp gauges on both banks & it wasn’t running hot, 185 right side 195 left side. After blowing out the quart+ it stopped. I let it continue running & temp stayed about the same. I’m delinquent in flushing & changing , been a few years. Engine has 4” bore Merc crank, domed pistons, 2 X 2 Holley 94, oversize valves, Mallory e-Dist. & Isky cam.
I vaguely remember a post & thread a few years ago saying if engine & radiator r over filled it should seek its own level ( I filled to about a 1/2 “ below top of rad. Tank)? While it didn’t happen a few years ago that I remember I’m
Thinking that’s Probly what happened?

If you look in the radiator where is the coolant in relation to the top of the cores

After the loss, is the coolant over the top of the core? If so, It looks like it is ok

Wow! 4” bore ? Do you even have a cylinder wall left ??

you probably had an air pocket when you refilled the rad. when the t-stat opened it purged the air , most likely . let the eng run until it reaches operating temp with the cap off and then top off the tank until it just covers the tubes

Installation of an empty overflow container works.

Paul & oldbugger, coolant is covering the core by about 1/2". Ken, you are right, probably at 4" the wall would be gone. Ive had many engines and vehicles in my 73 yrs and had a brainfart, 4" was on many of the SBC's i had. The 8BA is the only flathead Ford and it's been 12 years since buying it. went from memory:o oops! rechecked paper work and it was bored to 3 5/16".
Thx all

A few years back was having a small heating issue didn't know why flushed new coolest etc. Found out some how the over flow tube was plugged about midway.i ran a piece of weed whacked line through the tube .blocked solid. Cut metal tube off and replaced with rubber. Might want to check it out
