Clutch release hub help

1 Attachment(s)
I recently received my new clutch kit for my 39 style trans. It came complete with a new clutch release hub and bearing. However it’s very different from the original and I’m wondering if I should run the original hub or this new style?

Re: Clutch release hub help

Use the original hub but replace the bearing with one that matches your original. The release hub you received is not correct at all never seen one like that for the early Ford transmission.

Thank you, I hadn’t either. Not sure what this is for. Clutch and pressure plate look correct but this threw me for a loop. Thank you.

I don't see how the clutch fork would or could work on that hub. Tim

Interesting. Have you checked to see if it happens to fit the transmission and clutch fork? I'm just curious.

Also, is this a LONG style clutch, Borg & Beck, or Diaphragm?

Depending on the clutch setup, it may or may not work and it may also be important to understand the LENGTH the clutch requires from the fork front to the PP fingers . . . is this length different with this TO bearing versus the typical ones we're used too?

To use it, you would need to add someway for the spring to attach to it. Otherwise, it would have no way to retract accept to use your foot under the pedal.

Ahh. Maybe. I've never fooled with that style before. The spring is at the fulcrum of the fork, right?

Re: Clutch release hub help

I am betting the part number of the kit you bought is 07-516.. If so trash the hub and bearing and buy the appropriate

The kit you bought, again betting I am right on the part number has a great disc, but the pressure plate is marginal but you should be ok.. The hub and bearing WILL NOT WORK!!

You need a throwout bearing and hub for a 39 transmission.

The kit I got from rockauto is MU73461B I do have a 39 style hub with a new bearing and spring on the trans so I’ll certainly use that! I appreciate the advice that new bearing and hub threw me for a loop, everything else in the kit looks correct and nice.
