What would cause my right front to be lower?
 

Hello all,
What would cause my right front area on my truck to be lower? I can have it on level ground and put a four foot level across the bumper supports and the right side is about an inch lower. I know this is not a very scientific way of measuring but I have always noticed it sitting like this. You can see in the photo. It has all of the stock suspension. Thanks

The spring or a twist in the frame.Check the spring shackles also.

Unusual that it's the passenger side, had to look whether you had a RHD. Could be a PO reversed a sagging spring, maybe a shock absorber, being a truck, maybe an overload bent the frame, or broke a leaf.

Could also be the bumper brackets themselves. Loosen them up and see if you can raise the low end and lower the high.

If you are using a stock spring the "U" bolt's that clamp the spring into the crossmember might be tighter on one side clamping the spring unevenly.

Before messing with bumper brackets take measurements from wheel opening to the ground to determine if in fact the body is leaning or not.

Troubleshooting 101? With the wheels pointed straight ahead:

1. are the front tires the same size on both sides?
2. are the rear tires the same size? One rear tire larger makes the truck sit wrong
3. Measure from a spot on the bumper to the ground. Repeat for the other side.
4. Is the bumper bent in the up/down direction? Check for straightness.
5. Measure from a point on the frame to the ground. Do same on other side.

6. Measure from point on axle to ground and do the same on the other side
7. measure from fender sheet metal over tire to ground on both sides.

Using this data allows you to isolate where tilt is located.

Tree trunk and parking lot look tilted in that direction too. Could be gravitational. 8^)

Yeah that parking lot picture is not the best although the lot is level..my truck has been like this since I have owned it. The tires are all the same size. I measured from the bottom of the shocks down and also the frame at the radiator. Both points measured 1” different. I park it on ramps (I have a mid rise lift). I’ll have to start going down each side and see if it is the whole length of the truck. When you look at the rear it doesn’t look that bad..

Many years ago I was the proud owner of a 1936 Ford 3 window coupe. (wish I still had it!) The left front fender stared to go much lower than it should be. Upon examining the front cross member and frame I discovered the cross member had a large crack just inboard of the frame, but hadn't broke completely yet. My solution to this situation was to put a 6 inch spring shackle on the right side of the rear spring. Was fairly level after that. When I sold the car sometime later it still drove just fine!

Bodywork on right side done with lead... on the left side with bondo??? LOL.


Seriously, good ideas on posts above.
You might try putting it on 3 jack stands, 2 at the rear of the frame (leveled) and one at the center of the front crossmember. If the truck levels out you have suspension/spring/shock issues, if it remains caddywampus then it looks to be frame of body issues.

Looking at the picture, it appears as though you have a front-end wheel alignment problem as well...

when I look at the pic, it appears that the distance from the bottom of the headlights to the bumper appear to be equal. more of the suspension shows on drivers side than pass. side. my guess is either F or R spring related.

Flip the spring and let it drag to driver-side as intended on a truck. If you flip it and overtime it doesn't level, look at shocks... hopefully not the frame. New spring or old?

As mentioned look to make sure the center spring bolt is seated in place.

Its not a bumper thing. Even if the bumper is a bit non-level. or more level then the drivers side headlight that is way higher then the passenger. Measure the wheel wells not the bumper. You can hang the bumper a bit off. Just my 02cents.

Technically you could hang all of the frontend metal to one side. But if the hood is straight and clean to cab....
