Model "B" Oil Pressure

If I put an oil pressure gauge on a Model "B" engine, how much pressure would I see on the gauge while cruising at 50 MPH?

Re: Model "B" Oil Pressure

With hot oil, probably less than 1 lb. With cold oil, maybe 3 lbs.

My "B" engine will run 6 lbs. hot at 2000RPM. About 1 lb. at idle. Babbit bearings, about 18K miles on engine.

My Model B engine with Babbitt and 20 K (ON REBUILD) runs 2 to 3 lbs hot at Idle (450 RPM) and 8 to 9 at 60 MPH.

Thanks all for your replies. I thought that the Model "B" would develop higher oil pressure than you all report. I likely will not bother to install an oil pressure gauge.

The B motor in stock form is not a pressurized system. It is an attempt at directing the oil to the bearings. With a couple small modifications the system can be pressurized. Of course pump and drive will need attention too. I run approximately 30-35 psi on street motors and 60-70 on the race motors.

Re: Model "B" Oil Pressure

My B motor is equipped with a warning light, not a gauge. The light comes on at 9 psi and the only time I see it is when doing a Right hand turn - that's when the pump is drawing in air, not oil. Actual pressure at 50 mph - I don't know but it's enough.
