Looking for the rubber bushings that go on the front engine mount 1 Attachment(s)
Hi everyone,
I'm in the midst of restoring my 1930 Model A Coupe and have been looking high and low for the rubber bushings that go on the stem of front engine mount yoke (please see the pics in the attached PDF). I've tried multiple places, Mac's, CWMoss, A-Fordable, Tam's, Ebay, but no one seems to have them. Does anyone know where I can find them? Thanks in advance. John |
Re: Looking for the rubber bushings that go on the front engine mount I don't believe there is supposed to be rubber there. Mine has a leather washer and a brass bushing which rests in the crossmember hole. Someone will correct me shortly if I am wrong

Re: Looking for the rubber bushings that go on the front engine mount Also IIRC there have been some posts here about aftermarket mods to the front mount which allegedly reduced vibration. The consensus was that thos do more harm than good and it's best to stick with the stock setup. The vendors sell all the correct parts you need.

Re: Looking for the rubber bushings that go on the front engine mount I don't know, maybe the original owner put them on there? Those bushings pretty old, stiff, cracked, and fall apart with just a little pressure. There is a metal washer under the lower bushing where the castle nut goes on, it's just hard to see because it's pretty much sunk into the bushing.
If there's a different setup for that mount, I would definitely like to know, so I get the right parts. |

Yes, throw that stuff away and get the original style.

Re: Looking for the rubber bushings that go on the front engine mount Oh, that was the original style? I thought that one piece spring setup was the original, since it was so simple.

Re: Looking for the rubber bushings that go on the front engine mount In addition to the kit above, you will need the brass bushing. It is sold separately

Re: Looking for the rubber bushings that go on the front engine mount The brass bushing was deleted in February 1929.

I found a kit with the bushing. Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.

Re: Looking for the rubber bushings that go on the front engine mount Some also use the Float a Motor front and rear mount mod. My old 29 came to me with an aftermarket set up that looks like two bicycle seat springs joined together with two rubber cushions shaped to fit I side the springs. The cushions almost look like rubber bottle stoppers. I had not ever seen this set up before I replaced it with the OEM type setup.

Re: Looking for the rubber bushings that go on the front engine mount It was just a washer. As Bob mentioned, the top side was a leather washer, then the underside was a flat washer, spring and nut. I think it was redesigned to float a little more.

Re: Looking for the rubber bushings that go on the front engine mount That is an after-market mount sold by Western Auto, OTASCO, etc.

Re: Looking for the rubber bushings that go on the front engine mount 1 Attachment(s)
We offered those motor mount kits way back in the 70's-80's. Believe they were by Gene Scott at Antique Auto Parts in Rosemead at the time.

Re: Looking for the rubber bushings that go on the front engine mount Does anyone have any advice on getting the replacement parts installed with the engine still in? I have one of those same designs on my engine, missing all of the rubber, that vibrates pretty bad. I have all of the new "original" style parts but I can't get the old yoke and springs out due to being unable to lift the engine high enough to clear...

Re: Looking for the rubber bushings that go on the front engine mount 1 Attachment(s)
That's exactly what mine looks like, and it also has rubber bushings on the top and bottom of the yoke stem. Those were the parts I was looking for.

From experience, I have the same concern as SonicRat about getting the old one out with the engine in the car. I considered taking the pulley off but I don't think that is possible either. Maybe I can get in there enough to cut up the old one first. |
