Tubing Flare

I need to make a flare on each end of a 3/16 copper tubing for the vac line from the carb to the distributor. (53, 8ba)

How do you do that> Is it a bubble flare?

Re: Tubing Flare

doubt in '53 there was anything but inverted flares in US. use a brake line flaring tool

Re: Tubing Flare

They used specific nuts that tapered down and crimped into the pipe (slightly) I think they are available or you might be able to salvage some from an older pipe or odd ends in old manifolds.

Put this part number into a search on rockauto.

First, it is a steel tube,(use brake line) not a copper tube.
If the pinch nut is not available it can be replicated by using a flare nut with a ferrule.

Those nuts are hard to find locally, but 3rd gen has them I believe

I have seen those "pinch" nuts referred to as "Ford nuts" maybe in the Dorman line. Drake used to have them (like a lot of things).

Top picture is what I am looking for. I was uncertain about the correct nomenclature of the nut. Yeah, the tube probably is copper plated steel. I was concentrating on the nut. Also, there were two different size "pinch nuts" (Ouch, that smarts.) on these manifold vacuum tubes, roughly 1/4" & 3/8". Anyone know which size is correct. I know, I am obsessing over "correctness" on this project, but that's just the way I am put together I guess.

Ford used them well up into the 60s until the metal lines went the way of the dodo bird.

Eaton/Aeroquip's number is still 6100X3. This was the Weatherhead number if I remember correctly.
