34 Distributor Vacuum Brake

Could someone explain what the vacuum brake does on a 1934 Ford dome-style distributor? Could it cause starting issues if not set right?

Re: 34 Distributor Vacuum Brake

It retards the centrifugal advance weights to limit the amount of spark advance. At the low speed of startup, it is unlikely that the centrifugal advance weights are extended to any extent. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that it is a root cause of any starting issue.
