1950 Ford F3 Fuel Issues Good evening, I have a fuel issue on my flathead ford. Motor was rebuilt and know I can’t keep the truck running. Truck will idle with no problem but make it around the block. It’s like a vapor lock or something. Does anyone have any suggestions. Before motor was rebuilt I wasn’t having issues.

Re: 1950 Ford F3 Fuel Issues Before your motor was rebuilt, your flex line fittings were tightened correctly.
Re: 1950 Ford F3 Fuel Issues Yes all connections were tightened. Just can’t figure this issue out.
Re: 1950 Ford F3 Fuel Issues When driving, does it run rough from the beginning and then die, or does it run normally for a way, and then stumble and die.
Re: 1950 Ford F3 Fuel Issues Blocked fuel line , blocked exhaust, wrong gas cap ( not vented ) bad coil or condenser, carb dumping fuel ( would have black exhaust)
Re: 1950 Ford F3 Fuel Issues Motor running with no issues. Then it just shuts down no warning no noise
Re: 1950 Ford F3 Fuel Issues Can you start it back up right after it dies, or do you have to wait a while?
Re: 1950 Ford F3 Fuel Issues I would start with the fuel line. Check everything and assume nothing.
Re: 1950 Ford F3 Fuel Issues Either your pump is sucking air, or your flex line has collapsed. Is the flex an old one, or a new fuel resistant line? Have you checked pump delivery volume?

Re: 1950 Ford F3 Fuel Issues I have a hard time re starting. After it sits I can crack it.

you would get some hesitation or surging before it quit. |

There's an old saying : "90% of all carburation problems are ignition related, while most ignition problems are caused by a faulty fuel delivery system". |
Re: 1950 Ford F3 Fuel Issues To determine if it is fuel starvation, - after it dies, look down into the carb and full stroke the throttle to see if you get a stream of fuel into the venturi from the accelerator pump. If not, start working your way back through the fuel pump, fuel filter, flexible fuel hose, gas cap vent, etc.
If you get a good squirt from the accelerator pump, it is probably an ignition problem. After it dies, crank it right away to see if a spark plug wire will jump a half inch gap with a bluish white spark. |

As you are driving it starts staving did you pull the choke and it did try? Happened to me. My truck mint 1956 F350 express I worked the night shift till retirement not good to start walking at midnight a mile to my police station. ya late but I am the 3rd shift super. no phones then call next tow in line good..enough history. next day pore cup gas starts fine-dies: I know this is stupid thoughts. Back to you; I took the fuel sender out Ok. shine down there with light guess what; slivers of green like plastic right sucked into the fuel feed...bottom line someone before me sucked gas with a green garden hose and sliced hose on the filler pipe. So I say blow fuel line back drain tank and stick shop vac in problem solved...... |
