272 vs 292 Are there any differences between the two engines 1957 model year? Can the 272 be upgraded to a 292?
Thanks, Mike |
Re: 272 vs 292 Looks like it.
They use the same crankshaft dimensions and rods, but the bore is different... The 292 blocks may(???) have been cast slightly thicker at the cylinder walls to accommodate the larger bore but I don't know. http://ford-y-block.com/dimensions.htm http://ford-y-block.com/displacement.htm http://ford-y-block.com/technical.htm |
Re: 272 vs 292 ive bored 3 of them to 292.everything is the same in 57.the walls are about 1/16 thinner on average but thats no different than boring a 292.060

Re: 272 vs 292 This is the best route to go for rebuilding a 272 since 292 pistons will be much, much cheaper. Go standard bore for 292 pistons and you are good to go.
