Hinge Pins

Are the original hinge pins on the door knurled at the top of the shaft? Tried driving one up from the bottom but no luck due to the fact that you can't get a good angle with the punch and hammer. Also tried a small air hammer. Broke the Snyders tool. If the pin is knurled it would be difficult to to drive the pin down from the top but would be able to get a better strike on the punch. Thanks for the advice

Lots of ideas here. Never easy.

Re: Hinge Pins

Yes they are knurled at the top. If they weren't, the hinge most likely would stay stationary in the center s pillar side and rotate in the door, thinnest part of the hinge. First thing to observe when attempting to remove a pin is if it rotates with the door or stays stationary. If it is stationary, the pin is stuck in the center and removal will be difficult. oversize pins may be in your future, if so get a reamer to resize the hinge, do not use a cheap drill bit.

Thanks for the info. Ground off top of pin and drilled about half way down pin with a 1/8" drill and punched it out the bottom. Not too bad
