Guides resusable?

Are these guides reusable with the gouge on end? Was going to have Gofast put bronze liner in them. Thank you.

Hi Doug, send as many as will fit in the box (you have a PM), we'll get a good set I'm sure? (See the photo below)

If you are supplying your own valves would like at least one to "fit" to the guides, if we are supplying new valves we won't need any from you!

Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

P.S. Difficult to really tell how "bad" they are from the photos, all may be OK to use. They look usable to me but obviously we can tell better when we have them here!

Curious as to what did that to the guide tops...

Sounds simple to me, it's from whatever tool was used to sledge hammer them out.

Yeah, maybe. They look cut. Maybe a chisel?

Re: Guides resusable?

If they are not TIGHT in the block, no liners or oversize stems will help.
They should fit into the block metal to metal. The liners should be installed AFTER the guides are in the block.

Re: Guides resusable?

Those nicks and chips in the top do not disqualify the guides from use. If the burrs are removed and the valves have reasonable clearance at the stems they will be fine.

Just to add, when we do the liners we spotface most of the tops and the bottoms of the guides. (See photo below, this set had minimal stock removal from the bottoms, they were all in excellent condition)

There could be as much as .040" removed from those damaged areas. Has no effect on the integrity of the guides whatsoever!

Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

P.S. When we finish machining for the liners the O/L of the guides are very close to each other. May be a slight variation only.
