Is there a way to make a stock model A speedometer work with an s- 10, 5 speed transmission? Thanks Rich

Yes, you need a non world class tail shaft. Maybe need a little longer speedometer cable.

I Used a 4x4 5 speed and kept the torque tube...

I talked to a man that put in the 5-speed, and wishbone. He said he'd never do it again, it doesn't pick up that much speed. I was surprised to hear that.

I have one in my Vicky, and really like it. It shifts like a dream, has well-spaced ratios, etc. Mine is open-drive as it was easier to install, for me. They are available in a wide assortment of ratios.

Actually, an early world class trany will still have the mechanical drive speedo. The later ones have the electronic drive for the speedo and will not work with a mechanical speedo like the Model A.

The plastic driven gear in a T5 is common in most early GM tranys...including automatics. There are almost an infinite number of different tooth configurations available to dial in the accuracy of your speedo. I have a WC T5 in my MGB with a Rover aluminum V8 and Camaro T5 and the original MBG speedometer is dead nuts on with a GPS.

You will probably need a custom speedometer cable with the Model A end on the speedo side and the Chevy end on the trans side. Any speedo shop can make one up cheaply.

Duece Man, Mine is an early trans with a mechanical gear drive on it. Speedo reads way fast so I will put a GPS drive on my aftermarket, electric speedo.

I wasn't aware early world class and mechanical spedo I wasn't able to check mine closely against a gps because the salted roads but I was told that there are enough gear sets to adjust it. Mine is open shaft also and really like it.. very smooth shifting up and down. gears are very road friendly. kinda pricey but worth it.

Dave,
Although the WC T5 is an all round better trany (bearings instead of bushings) it is really not needed in our low power Model As. The non WC trany will do just fine and are a lot cheaper than the WC model. Glad you are enjoying yours!
