Replacing Top on 1930 Tudor Sedan Upon removing the top material and the two piece rain gutters which were still in great shape: I found only one mouse hole in the top which i repaired. The chicken wire and under lying materials are still intact and in great shape.
Now my question is what type of sealant are they talking about in the instructions ,"place a bead of sealant under the rain gutter before reattaching" Question two: what do i used to fill in the tacking holes along the gutter's path, some of the wood is rotted on the very outside (but not on the inside). I cannot replace the wood because the interior was just completed. Any suggestions are appreciated. Coming to the end of my two and 1/2 year project now. thanks in advance, Michael... |
Re: Replacing Top on 1930 Tudor Sedan Michael,
I would use some 3M or other brand of Seam Sealer, some are water soluble clean up. Should find it at an auto paint supply. For the wood, look into RotFix (spelling) it is a two part you mix and brush on. Don't mix too much at a time. Ed |

Re: Replacing Top on 1930 Tudor Sedan Michael,
Be very careful with the epoxy wood preservative materials. Stuff like Get-Rot is very liquid, about like water, and could find its way onto the interior panels. If the outside edge of the wood is in question, use longer fasteners to secure the new top and rain gutters. A good seam sealer from 3M would work well; I would stay away from silicone. Lay the top material out on the car and let it set in the hot sun for some time. The top needs to stretch for it to look good. You will need some helpers... Good luck, Rex |
Re: Replacing Top on 1930 Tudor Sedan I have used a seam sealer called Sikaflex. Come in black and other colors.
