Turn signals I just bought a 1930 model a and I am changing it over to a 12 volt, My question is do I have to change my 6 volt controller to a 12 volt controller or can I just change the flasher and keep the same controller. Sorry for the dump question but I am new at this.

Re: Turn signals Why do you wan't to change to 12 volts?
|
Re: Turn signals There is no need to change to 12v.

Re: Turn signals And heeere we go!
|
Re: Turn signals I wouldn't change to 12volt but, if you do just change the bulbs and flasher the switch is just a switch.

We need bumper stickers that read: "6 VOLTS RULE" "I'M POSITIVELY GROUNDED" "6 VOLTS FOREVER" |

I have converted to 12 volts and glad I did. I have been in some pretty out of the way places when I needed an ignition coil, even a globe. Not many places sell 6 volt component now but 12 - no problem. |

And are you sure that "in the pretty out of the way places" you will find parts ? (btw I don't now what a 'globe' is) |
Re: Turn signals Are you referring to the turn signal switch on the column? If so, probably should be OK with just the flasher change. We use the 3 prong type . If there is a bulb in the flasher stalk, that may need to be changed. In ours was a 1 watt mini bulb..

Re: Turn signals You won’t need to change the switch itself just the signal stat and bulbs. I kept my 31 Tudor in its original 6 volt system. I don’t care for most of the current aftermarket turn signal systems that are available. I made my own 6 volt system using a 6 volt signal stat from an old Kawasaki motorcycle and switches that I believe are originally used in MG cars. The mount for switches is an aftermarket gauge holder for the Model A.

Re: Turn signals If you have an LED turn signal system you should not have to change anything

I just don't like having that big Signal Stat switch on the steering column. I used a SPDT switch hidden under the dash rail. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/pictu...ictureid=39684 |

Back when I was into Corvairs I would drive my favorite Corsa all over the place. It had a coil, points, condenser, etc. and I carried no spares.:p:p Not sure how we got here from turn signals tho, haha. |
Re: Turn signals Quote:
The switch on the left operates the turn signals. The switch on the right is for my cowl lights and a future accessory. When I started to research the turn signal systems that are currently available, I couldn’t find anything that I liked. I just didn’t like having a box on the dash, micro switch on the shifter or the 50ish looking turn signal stem on the steering column. I wanted something that looked period correct in the car without drilling any new holes. A lot of searching on E-Bay I found the switches in the UK. I made an insert for the gauge holder on the column and added a fuse block and signal stat off an old motorcycle. The whole system can be removed with no trace of ever having been there. It would have been cheaper to go with what’s available on the market but I really like this set up better. |
