Primer on Motor Do you need to primer the motor before painting? If so what color is used light gray, dark gray, black or red?
|
Re: Primer on Motor I don't use primer for the engine.
Ford engine green is the proper colour. Available from all the vendors. Good Luck. Jeff |
Re: Primer on Motor I use one coat of rustoleum red rusty metal primer before two coats of my special mix of Ford engine green.

Re: Primer on Motor no primer, the engine paints of today go right over bare metal. just do NOT use any water base.

Re: Primer on Motor When it comes to heat transfer, less paint is better. :)

Re: Primer on Motor I only used primer on an engine one time, many many years ago. When the engine warmed up, the paint peeled. Never again! Only use paint that is intended for painting engines and apply it directly to clean bare metal. It is heat resistant. Most primers are not heat resistant.

Re: Primer on Motor Thank all of you for your quick reply. This is the best site to use for information or problem solving on the Ford Model A.

Re: Primer on Motor 5 Attachment(s)
I used a bio-degradable de-greaser, got the engine nice and clean, and painted the engine, no primer, has not peeled in the three years since.
I painted the intake manifold white, because I wanted to, there, answered your question. |
Re: Primer on Motor Clean unpainted cast iron has tooth and needs no primer . I agree about heat transfer , keep the paint to a minnimum on engines and radiators !!!
