Special Prep For Install of Water Outlet? Group,
Down the road, I'm thinking of installing a different water outlet that has a drilled hole for a water temp probe. Since I just replaced the head gasket, I'm wondering if I will have a problem with my head gasket if I remove the front water outlet nuts and replace with a new water outlet ? Will I get a head gasket leak with the force removed and then reapplied ? Marc |
Re: Special Prep For Install of Water Outlet? Marc, you shouldn't as long as the water level is below the bottom of the head gasket.
Just make sure the new neck you are placing on there is flat on the mating surface. I only use a bit of sealer on the surfaces as to not warp the neck, or give the head another expansion area. I have also found that adding a heavy flat washer below the nut helps spread the torque load and keeps from braking off the neck ears. I know, this is going to bring a LOT of flack from those who don't believe in the flat washer, but it has worked for me for almost 60 years. |

Re: Special Prep For Install of Water Outlet? Marc, I did the same thing you are going to do and had no problems with the head gasket leaking.
