53 Monarch. Engine miss smooths out on acceleration My 53 Monarch is a daily driver. Lately it has begun to miss at any cruising speed. However, when I accelerate, even slightly, the miss goes away. As soon as I feather the throttle the miss comes back. That suggests to me that it has something to do with the vacuum advance, but I don't know what or how.

Re: 53 Monarch. Engine miss smooths out on acceleration I'm sure we would like to see a picture of the Monarch. On my 52 Merc I had some missing and cutting out issues and I found the wire from the distributor to coil was nearly broken off at the dist. end. New wire and ends had it running smooth again. Just a thought I had when you mentioned your problem.

Re: 53 Monarch. Engine miss smooths out on acceleration Inspect the wire under the point plate for fraying or rub thru and grounding when the vacuum advance pulls/moves the plate.

Re: 53 Monarch. Engine miss smooths out on acceleration See if pulling the choke out (if it has one) smooths it out. Could be a blockage in a main jet and it's ok once the power valve opens. Could be ignition related though.

Re: 53 Monarch. Engine miss smooths out on acceleration Blocked low speed passages in carb so it gets lean or that it gets to rich from broken powervalve...First do as Mart says and check with choke that will give you a hint if itīs fuel or ignition related and if running lean.

I had the same problem on my '51. Replaced the wire, problem solved. Ken |
Re: 53 Monarch. Engine miss smooths out on acceleration Hi guys:
Thanx for the ideas. Haven't tried any of them yet but first here is a picture of my Monarch. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...4922214&type=3 |
