V8 front axle Hi Guys,
I was offered a V8 front axle as replacement. Is the V8 front axle the same as the Model A axle? |
Re: V8 front axle No. The early ones have a drop, and the later ones are wider as well

Re: V8 front axle TKS Chuck,
Much appreciated. |
Re: V8 front axle Do you know the year of the axle and also what are your plans? Will brakes remain mechanical or be hydraulic?
|
Re: V8 front axle Ted has a TUBE axle from a '37 V8-60, under his '30 Coupe.
I understand that they were dropped, to compensate for the lighter V8-60. Bill Isawit |
Re: V8 front axle 32-34 axles will bolt right in and lower the front of the car about 1/2". Later axles have the spring perch bolts farther apart, so the A spring won't fit. 32-34 brakes are bigger (12" diameter) and can be hooked up to the A, giving a little better brake.

Re: V8 front axle Thanks Guys,
No, I am not planning to do any mods or 'upgrades' I was led to believe my axle might be bent and was offered a V8 axle by a friend. So, if it is not a straight swop, I can live with a slight kink. It does not really bother me. I need to replace the RH kingpin bushes and thought it might be a good time to swop the axles. Thanks, much appreiated. |
Re: V8 front axle You will straighten the axle fairly easily just cold with a press if you take it out.

Re: V8 front axle An alignment shop that works on big trucks may have the equipment to straighten the axle in the car.
