V8 front axle

Hi Guys,
I was offered a V8 front axle as replacement.
Is the V8 front axle the same as the Model A axle?

No. The early ones have a drop, and the later ones are wider as well

Do you know the year of the axle and also what are your plans? Will brakes remain mechanical or be hydraulic?

Ted has a TUBE axle from a '37 V8-60, under his '30 Coupe.
I understand that they were dropped, to compensate for the lighter V8-60.

32-34 axles will bolt right in and lower the front of the car about 1/2". Later axles have the spring perch bolts farther apart, so the A spring won't fit. 32-34 brakes are bigger (12" diameter) and can be hooked up to the A, giving a little better brake.

Re: V8 front axle

Thanks Guys,
No, I am not planning to do any mods or 'upgrades'
I was led to believe my axle might be bent and was offered a V8 axle by a friend. So, if it is not a straight swop, I can live with a slight kink. It does not really bother me.
I need to replace the RH kingpin bushes and thought it might be a good time to swop the axles.
Thanks, much appreiated.

Re: V8 front axle

You will straighten the axle fairly easily just cold with a press if you take it out.

An alignment shop that works on big trucks may have the equipment to straighten the axle in the car.

Yep, I found a truck shop that will take a look.
Much appreciated.
