Cam Gear Removal I have the Double D tool to remove the nut and I've blocked the gears with a piece of wood but the gear just keeps losing teeth as I spin it. Any suggestions on getting this thing off?

Re: Cam Gear Removal Looks like I'll be removing the radiator. Was hoping to avoid doing that. Damn.

Re: Cam Gear Removal Rather than a block of wood, try a shop rag.

Re: Cam Gear Removal The block of wood is a no no .Do as Patrick says use the wifes best heavy towel and stuff it in ,spreads the load on the teeth ( as the actress said to the bishop )

Re: Cam Gear Removal I concur with the impact guys. I have had them so tight it stripped of all the teeth and I had to put a pipe wrench on the hub ( old cloyes gear with aluminum hub. Of course I had to remove the oil pan and do a clean out.
As Forever 4 indicated use a good 1/2 impact and give it some bumps, hopefully it will loosen up. When re-installing make sure your timing marks are aligned. and spring and plunger re-installed |

Isn't that only when you're north of the equator ? :p |
Re: Cam Gear Removal Before pulling the rad, you might trying vice grips on the cam gear, resting them against the pan to keep from turning. Impact wrench will definitely work.
