Xmission Oil How much 600wt gear oil does the transmission hold. Want to change mine as I have no clue how long it has been in there, at least 11 years. Looks like a messy job. TIA

Re: Xmission Oil Warm the tranny up with a good drive, then pull the drain plug and let it drain over night. One quart should be enough, but just keep filling until it's ready to flow out the fill plug.
Buy extra oil so you can refill as needed. |
Re: Xmission Oil Thanks Tom.

Re: Xmission Oil Looks like I'm going to have to order this oil as there is none in the village of Warrenton Va.

Re: Xmission Oil Remember,it is 600W oil,not 600 weight. That was a designation that somehow got morphed into WT over the years. If you try to research the specs for 600W in that time period you will find the viscosity was between 140-240.A few years ago I drained all my cars out over the winter,in the spring I filled them all with 90WT.It was what I had a drum of in my garage.I figured it would wash out any of the old tallow stuff left, then I could put in something else.I never bothered,it is still in there.

Re: Xmission Oil Thanks Keith I was not aware of that.

Re: Xmission Oil You could try 140 weight, with a little thickener addititive if needed. Sorry can't think of the name at this moment.

Re: Xmission Oil Stp?

Re: Xmission Oil Put in Lucas Oil Stabilizer. It works great.
|
Re: Xmission Oil I'm using Lucas Oil Stabilizer in mine now and she never shifted better.
|
Re: Xmission Oil Is it better to use 100% Lucas Oil Stabilizer or a mixture of Lucas and 600W? If mixed, what ratio? Still having trouble down shifting.
|
Re: Xmission Oil hey thanks for the info looks like Lucas Oil Stabilizer it is. If it is suitable for the xmssion I presume it can be used in the rear and steering box?

Let us know how it works out. We'll [ I'll ] be interested. It foamed so bad it made mine unshiftable. |

What oil are you using now ? How long have you been trying to figure this shifting thing out ? It takes time. Just a suggestion, try raising the engine speed even more and see that helps. |
Re: Xmission Oil Can someone tell me about Lucas oil stabilizer, is it the same consistency as STP.?, ---- I am interested if anyone recommends a anti foam additive for the transmission oil.
|
Re: Xmission Oil I'm using Lucas Oil Stabilizer in both the trany and steering box, have not seen any foaming....

Re: Xmission Oil Well now that the car is running somewhat decent I crawled under to drain the transmission. Stuck a finger in the fill hole and it came out bone dry. Took out the drain plug and got all of 1/2 cup of black something........I double clutch and never had any problem shifting,or grinding but the car had what I thought sounded like gear whine. My friend up the road Quigely provided me with some 600W gear oil. I'll let this thing drain (drip) overnight per Tom W. suggestion, get some oil in there and go for a spin tomorrow. Cheers
