Just put the timing gear cover and front pulley back on the 8BA. Was I supposed to lubriplate the inside face of the timing cover where the cam meets or does oil get in there somehow. I really hate to take it apart again.

Also how important is it to soak the two piece rope seal in oil before installing. I seem to have missed that one as well.

Plenty of oil gets there, and to the seal, you will be fine.

Here's a commonly held procedure saying it's a good idea to "soak". But, if you didn't do it I wouldn't take the engine apart and start over.

Have never soaked a rope seal on any build here. Have never had an issue over it either.

The timing cover install should be fine.

P.S. Doing mostly the 8BA units we stay with Fel-Pro gaskets with the exception of the front (timing-cover), here we use the 1-pc neoprenes and the non-spiraled sleeves.

Gary,

Where do you get those sleeves and the one piece seal? I got a one piece seal from Speedway a few years ago, and when I went to use it, it needed a bunch of silicone to keep it in place. Yours looks like it "fills the gap". My engine is on the stand with new "graphite-impregnated" seals, but I can still drop the pan if I have to.

Any information will be appreciated.

P.S. Can you just explain in a little more detail about the "gap" you mention above?? Where exactly is it located?
