permetex "make a gasket" for oil pan gasket creation

Has anyone used the Permatex 82180 Ultra Black Maximum Oil Resistance RTV Silicone Gasket Maker compound to make a oil pan gasket rather than use a cork gasket?

All the car manufacturers changed to Permatex instead of actual gaskets years ago & it works quite well. Just make sure both surfaces are clean, dry & straight. Usually a 1/4 inch bead is what works best.

You're still going to need the front and rear pan seals .

Yes please let me know how it works! I need to drop my pan and clean it out and install a new gasket soon!

yes I have used it multiple times. It works so well, I bet you could take all the bolts out and the gasket maker would still hold the pan in place while driving. It's a bear to get off the pan off again tho.

Yes, I have used it on newer cars, but since I want the pan to come off again to check the bearings, I'd prefer to use the gasket and put a light coat of grease on one side of it.
