Another diff question

Hey guys, still working on this diff, just cleaning things up and getting ready for reassembly. I picked up another diff last week and broke it down for the axels and parts. Just noticed these cracks, is this common on these ol girls?? The second diff I have had the same cracks, just on the thin side of the banjo also. Is this something to worry about, I can't find any other cracks in the housing. More opinions from wise sages would be greatly appreciated ;) http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11...d6555ba9d9.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11...50644e163b.jpg

Re: Another diff question

The cracks in the banjo housing is found very often in the very early housings that did not have the support gussets. The cracks are at the four bolt holes closest to the torque tube mounting flange. Best to find a banjo of a later species that has support gussets, unless you are building a show car.

Re: Another diff question

I concur with Tom . The earlier center housings that did mt have the gussets were much weaker, prone to leaking at the weld joints/ seams etc
Ford found out quickly they were a problem and made the piece as one.
The later units are plentiful
I probably have 25-30 or more
